How Do You Know Movie 2010 Online Free Review

Once upon a time, not too long ago, James L. Brooks was a force to be reckoned with: Co-creator of such classic TV shows as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Taxi and The Tracy Ullman Show, Brooks has won 19 Primetime Emmy Awards, more than any other person in TV history. In film, he is among a select few who has won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay. He has also directed 9 different actors in Oscar-nominated performances, including Shirley MacLaine (who won) and Debra Winger in Terms of Endearment (a weepie yours truly loved); Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt in As Good As It Gets (both won); and Holly Hunter (she won) and Albert Brooks in Broadcast News. Great movies all, great performances all, great achievements all, right?

You would expect someone with such an impressive background to write/direct something a little more substantive, certainly a lot more droll than the soon to open How Do You Know (which doesn t even have a question mark after it even though that s the correct punctuation mark that should tell you something is amiss). Never has so much talent Brooks, who wrote and directed the movie and the film s stars, the usually chirpy Reese Witherspoon, the hilarious Owen Wilson and reliably solid Paul Rudd converged to produce so much unfunny dreck. Only the charming and cuddly Rudd emerges as a beacon of light in this two-hour parade of creative darkness. But he s not enough to salvage this lame, vapid sitcom (a canned laugh track is all that s missing) into something remotely watchable.

The film centers on Lisa Jorgenson (Witherspoon), a 31-year-old champion softball player who is undergoing an identity crisis after being cut by her coach. With her career now over, Lisa has to decide what she wants to do with the rest of her life. Should she go to grad school like her former colleagues? Should she coach? She also has to decide whether she is really serious about the millionaire professional baseball player she s dating (Wilson) or should she dump him in favor of the sweet corporate guy with the dimples (Rudd) who is becoming the center of a federal probe for stock fraud, among other white-collar malfeasances? So many questions, so little time. Too bad Witherspoon s character seems as excited about these options as I do about contemplating my taxes for 2010.
