Here’s An Opinion On:
Great restaurants near valbonne

The quality of the restaurants on and around Valbonne is very high given the amount of competition that exists around this beautiful12th century village.
My first choice would have to be You Fassum at Plascassier, about a mile or so west of Valbonne. This Michelin star establishment is situated in a very imposing old building known for years as La Tourmalene. It has the most spectacular views down the valley to the coast near Mandelieu.
However whilst the wonderful position, and certainly the terrace at the front of the building is an absolutely idyllic setting for lunch or dinner, it is the combination of smiling top quality service and exquisite food that gets my vote.
My second choice is utterly different and no more than 200 metres fromLou Fassum.
The Auberge St Donat is set on the roundabout nearby. A traditional workers restaurant, it’s lunch time menu changes daily runs to five courses including wine and coffee for less than 15 euros. The quirky and very french thing is that there is no choice in the food, it is a fixed menu with a hot starter a cold starter, a main course, desert and coffee The wine choice is red white or rose, all vin de table and all from the same vineyard. On a weekday there may be as many as 200 dining, but by 2.15 it is empty except for the lingering ex pats who have discovered this little gem.
Third on the list is the Pierres Rouge, on the road out of Valbonne on the way to Mougins before the Brittans roundabout. It is a family run, quintessentially French Provencal restaurant with excellent food friendly service, and with a very welcoming fire lit in the winter and a charming terrace outside in summer. It is reasonably priced and very relaxed.
The Bois Dore is just around the corner from the Pierres Rouge and is significantly up market from its neighbour. There is a very reasonable lunch time menu and the setting is very beautiful surrounded by trees on a pretty terrace with white linen everywhere.
It would not be right or proper not to have amongst the top 5 one of the eateries in the fine old square of Valbonne, and so my 5th choice is the Cafe Des Arcades in Valbonne Square.
The food is remarkably good for a large cafe with the plat de jour often being outstanding. The salads excellent and the pizzas this based and delicious. Couple that with plenty of friendly staff. It also has an unsurpassed position on the north (sunny side) of the square where the sun warms the terrace even in January which is welcome except for mid summer.
There are several others that I considered, notably the wild and wacky Valbonnaise, an Italian family run place in the north of the village. Also good is the Pimpranel, small and atmospheric, the Cedran Soliare also in the village and Le coin De la Rue, once rum by the people who now run Les Pierres Rouge.
Staying in Valbonne is best enjoyed by renting a private villa. The hotels in the town are quirky or basic and one has far better facilities such as gardens, views and swimming pools available. There are a surprising number of private villas for rent, even in high season as many owners tend to take a holiday in summer. There are agencies who can find you something that suits your needs, and there is ay least one based in Valbonne itself which is run by ex pats.
Valbonne is just 20 minutes drive from Nice airport, from which flights arrive almost daily from all the major London airports, Manchester Liverpool, Leeds in summer, Bristol and several others. A car is best as public transport, whilst cheap, a bus trip to Cannes costs just one Euro, but the system is underdeveloped and there is little to be had after dark, plus taxis are expensive and scarce.
